Another week, another ‘To Read… Or Not To Read?’ post! Last week I looked at the first five books on my Goodreads to be read shelf and managed to take off one book that was on my list. I’m hoping to remove a couple more this week and bring that shelf down to a more realistic number! Also, if you want to join in and try and whittle your to be read shelf down to more manageable numbers, feel free! I’ll be posting this every Thursday.
The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch
I’ve already attempted to read this book once, granted it was about four or five years ago. I do remember enjoying it but felt I had to really concentrate while reading and I did feel like it was slow going. However after reading a couple of reviews and the synopsis, I’m willing to give this book another go. Plus it’s been on my shelves for all eternity, so if we don’t get along I can always get rid of it and make more room for new books!

Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead

As a HUGE fan of the Vampire Academy books, how could I not want to read this? I am holding out hope it will be similar in some ways since I really loved VA but also different, I am a little worried I’ll compare the two way too much and end up disappointed, but that’s on me. However I’m really not a fan of this book cover, so when I finally do get around to reading it, I’ll probably get the e-book.
The Traitor Baru Cormorant (The Masquerade, #1) by Seth Dickinson
Hmm, reviews seem to be very much in the love it or hate it categories for this book. It sounds interesting, really interesting actually, and if I had all the time in the world to just sit and read and didn’t have to do anything else, I’d definitely be leaving it on my to read shelf. I’m trying to think realistically, will I ever read it? Really? I say I will but… for now I think I’ll be removing it from my list and who knows, maybe one day it will find it’s way back on there.

Breaking Her (Love is War, #2) by R.K. Lilley

I remember very little from the first book, Breaking Him, but apparently I rated that one four stars back in 2015. I have no desire to re-read the first book to be honest and I think I would need to before diving into the second, so this ones going to be another removal from my to read list! Goodbye Breaking Her!
Ruined (The Eternal Balance, #1) by Jus Accardo
I have a feeling I’d really like this one, it’s throwing some serious angst and maybe a little bit of enemies to lovers kind of chemistry around (even if they’re past lovers or something like that according to the synopsis). Again though, I’m trying to think more realistically here, will I actually read this book? I don’t own it and I already have so many books on my shelves that I do own and haven’t even read yet. I think I’m going to remove this one too, and who knows? Maybe I’ll stumble across it again some day.

Whew, that one was actually kind of hard, three out of five isn’t too bad though! The books I’m removing aren’t exactly high up on my must read now list, but they’re still books I think I’d like and I’ve found some absolute gems when reading books that aren’t as popular or hyped up. I do think I’ve made the right decision though, shelf space is so tight at the moment and yes, I could get these in e-book instead but I have at least 150 physical books on my shelves that I haven’t read yet.
Have you read any of these books? What are your thoughts on them? Any you think I should change my mind about?
