Wrap Up | August ‘18

Hello friends! This is my first wrap up post since I came back to blogging, I’m not sure if I’ll continue to do it as a separate post yet or combine it with my TBR posts, I’ll have to see how it goes! Anyway, August was a pretty decent reading month for me considering I’ve been quite busy, I’ve also had some really terrible reading months recently so managing two/three books a month is seriously an achievement right now!

In the month of August I’ve managed to read four books, which like I said for me, is pretty damn good!

Lifel1k3 – Jay Kristoff

Rating: ★★★★

While I did really enjoy Lifel1k3 it’s definitely not my favourite Jay Kristoff book, and I’ve been debating lowering my rating for a few different reasons, one very much being the end of the book. I don’t like to go into too much detail and hate spoilers, so I’m not going to say much on this, but let’s just say it was a huge, weird turn that kind of gave me whiplash. Anyway I hope to have a mini review of this one up on my blog soon, so look out for that if you want to hear more of my thoughts on this one!

The Surface Breaks – Louise O’Neill

Rating: ★★★.5

The Surface Breaks was a super quick, easy read that I really enjoyed, but it didn’t wow me.

Moxie – Jennifer Mathieu

Rating: ★★★★★

I loved Moxie a lot, I felt so inspired and I could feel the girl power rushing through my veins when I’d finished. It also made me take a look at my younger years and what school was like, and kind of re-evaluate a lot of things that we brush off as ‘normal/standard’ behaviour, when it really shouldn’t be. Definitely pick this one up!

Words in Deep Blue – Cath Crowley

Rating: ★★★★★

I have to admit I was slightly worried going into this book, I knew it was mainly character driven and there wasn’t much of a plot at all, for me that’s generally a deal breaker, being a lover of fantasy means that I need a plot, preferably a fast paced one with a lot of ass kicking. But I thoroughly enjoyed Words in Deep Blue, it’s funny, heartbreaking and thought provoking, also it really really made me want to annotate my books, and I think it might change your mind about annotating too if you read it, it’s really quite special!

So I thought maybe I’d share what I’m watching on my wrap up posts too, rather than just books I thought it would add some more insight into my months and also give me more to share with you guys when my reading is slacking a little.

I started watching Once Upon A Time, I cant remember if it was the end of July or beginning of August, I think it was around the last week of July though, anyway I’m now on S4E22 and I am ADDICTED. I love this show and why the hell did I wait so damn long to watch it? Oh and also why do they keep ruining/sinking all my bloody ships? I can’t get enough of OUAT and am in my usual binge watching state where every spare moment is spent with me being glued to the screen. Like actually going to work is painful and I’m spending my breaks watching an episode whenever I can. I think I need help, One Upon A Time intervention anyone?

I thought it might be nice to also do a little wrap up on life too, I’ve seen a few bloggers do this and it gives their blog a more personal feel which I quite like, I’m not very interesting to be honest so I’m not sure if this will be a regular thing, but I thought it might be nice to include anyway.

So my partner and I are in the last stages of buying our first home together and we hit a bump, well more like a hill, a month or so ago with completion. I’m not going to go into too much detail and bore you all the death but basically we’re waiting for something to be done that is totally and utterly out of our control and there’s no possible way to even estimate a move in date or really push for it to be done quicker and it sucks! I’m hoping we’ll be in before Christmas but I’m not setting my hopes too high!

I opened my own website for my bookish candle business this month and so far it’s going great! We’re still on Etsy too, but the hope is to eventually move away from that and just have the website. It’s a big move but I’m very excited about it all! If you’d like to check out my candles you can head on over to my website Paper Flames Candle Co!

A few days ago I went shopping with my boyfriend and we were looking at rings. Specifically engagement rings. I saw one I absolutely adored and… HE BOUGHT IT! 😱 A slightly untraditional way of doing things I know, he said he wanted me to go with him to pick one out because he wanted to make sure he got it right with the ring (size and look etc) since I’d be wearing it for the rest of my life. I think he sold himself short a little and knows me better than he thinks he does but I understood. At first I thought it might take a little of the romance out of it, and maybe it will since I know what it looks like, but we’d already talked about our future and I knew he’d be asking me at some point after we’d bought our house, and he knows I’ll say yes. Plus it’s not like I know how, when, where he’ll ask!

And that’s my wrap up for August!

What have you been up to this month? What books have you read?

  1. Omg!! Your life update is super exciting!! I hope everything with the house works out soon for you. Buying a houses such a faff these days.
Isn’t Moxie amazing?! I felt exactly the same, it really points out the small things that we let pass us by each day during school especially.
