Book Tag: This or That |The Torturous Edition

I’ve been looking for some fun book tags to do and I recently found this one, the This or That book tag, but the torturous edition! I believe this tag was originally made by Paper Fury. Lets get started shall we?

Series or Standalone?

Series. All of my favourite books are series, so I had to go with series for this question. Looking at my shelves there aren’t actually that many standalones. Maybe I need to read more of them? What are some of your favourite standalones?

Magic Earned or Magic Born?

I think I’m going to have to choose the chosen one for this and go with magic born. I love waaay too many characters that are born with magic, as much as the ‘chosen one’ trope can get hella annoying.

Enemies-to-Lovers or Friends-to-Lovers?

Easy! Enemies-to-lovers every day. I love when the main character ends up with the bad boy, providing the bad guy isn’t a complete ass of course. This is probably my favourite trope at the moment!

Hilarious Banter or Emotional Ruin?

This is a hard one, on one hand I love books like Six of Crows with the hilarious banter, on the other, some of the books that have stuck with me most tend to be the ones that have left me in emotional ruin. So… I’m going to say emotional ruin.

Love Triangle or Insta Love?

Oh god, I hate both of these to be honest, but I’m going to have to pick insta love because for me that’s way more unbelievable also I hate insta love way more than a love triange. Seriously, have you ever looked at someone and then instantly fell in actual love with them? No. Because that just doesn’t happen.

Keyboard-Smash Fantasy Names or All Names Start With the Same letter?

I’m going with keyboard-smash names, even though I can’t pronounce them ever and I always make up my own version. I quite like the idea of, when I decide to have them, naming my child after a book character so it’s nice to have all these unusual random names to choose from, although getting my boyfriend on board hasn’t worked yet.

Mean Parents or Dead Parents?

I think I prefer dead parents over mean parents. I’d rather there not be parents than read about shit ones. I do think it’s important that authors write about both though.

Supermodel Looks or Constantly Says How ‘Plain’ They Are?

Ugh, both suck so much. Do I have to pick? I can’t pick. I hate both. Okay, supermodel looks, they complain less.

Face on Covers or Typography on Cover?

Both!! When done well of course. I think faces on covers can be super important, especially when it’s POC, that representation is needed. But I adore typography, its just so pretty!

Villain Turning A Little Good or Hero Turning A Little Bad?

Villain turning a little good, Holland I am looking at you!! I do love both of these but prefer when the villain ends up surprising you and changing a little, making amends, or at least trying to anyway.

Some of these were much harder than I thought they would be to be honest! I’d like to see some answers from you guys so I’m tagging…

Haf @ Library Looter

Dorine @ My Paper World

Kelly @ Kelly’s Rambles

And anyone else who wants to do this tag to! 😀

  1. Great post! This tag looks fun but difficult to answer. I love both the enemies to lovers and friends to lovers! Have you read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before because it has one of these tropes and it’s great! (but there’s also a love triangle!) I also love series’ because I get to read more about the characters and the world. For a lot of these questions I just want to pick both, haha it’s difficult to choose.

  2. Oh, this was a fantastic post. I love it so much. Holland broke my heart in the Shades of Magic trilogy and I wish there were more books just about him. You know, the question about the plain looks vs. the supermodel ones got me thinking about all the female characters who were “pretty but did not know it,” which also gets irritating. I think my favorite depiction of a female character has to be Blue Sargent from the Raven Boys. She was messy and unique, and kind of a hipster with a tad bit of obnoxiousness that I cannot help but love.
