Yearly TBR – How I’m Doing So Far. Spoiler – It’s Not Good.

Hello Adventurers!
(I’m thinking of calling my awesome followers ‘Adventurers’ since my blog is Her Paper Adventure, what do you think? Too much or?)

At the start of the year I set myself a TBR that was a little different from usual, I decided to try a TBR that lasted for the whole year since monthly ones were never working out for me. I’ve got to admit that I totally forgot I’d made a yearly TBR so we’ll have to see if I’ve actually read much from the list, I think that’s a huge problem with setting a yearly TBR, rather than monthly, it’s very easy to forget about if you’re not organised! I’ve also been extremely busy over the last year so I haven’t read too many books so far!

In this post we’ll take a look at the books I’d put on my original post, tick off and give a quick review and star rating for the ones I have read and then amend the original list for the last six months of the year!

These are the original books I’d picked out for 2018, the ones I have read will have a quick review and star rating!

A Reaper at the Gates – Sabaa Tahir
Batman: Nightwalker – Marie Lu
Catwoman: Soulstealer – Sarah J Maas
Morning Star – Pierce Brown
Iron Gold – Pierce Brown
Gemina – Aime Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Obsidio – Aime Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Godsgrave – Jay Kristoff
Tower of Dawn – Sarah J Maas
Crooked Kingdom – Leigh Bardugo
Legendary – Stephanie Garber

Daughter of the Siren Queen – Tricia Levenseller
★★★★☆
This one was so much fun, I really love Alosa and Riden a lot, it’s been quite a while since I read this one, I finished it in March and can’t really remember exactly what happened, but I do remember finishing it in like a day or so!

RetributionRails Erin Bowman
★★★★★
I am a huge fan of the Vengeance Road books, Erin Bowman writes a gritty western I’m pretty sure everyone will love, not only that but both books in this duology are so gorgeous. Retribution Rails was a solid five star read for me although I did like Vengeance Road a little more!

Scythe – Neal Shusterman
★★★★☆
The concept of this book is amazing, and while there were one or two things I had issues with they were small and didn’t change my rating too much. I’m currently reading the second book, Thunderhead at the moment and while I am enjoying it, there are still a few issues I’m having, I’ll hopefully get to do a review once I’ve finished!

Royal Bastards – Andrew Shvarts
Crash Into Pieces – Christopher Kerns

Avenged – Amy Tintera
★★★★
I’m really enjoying the Ruined series so far, they’re not the best books I’ve ever read but there’s just something about the world, characters and Amy’s writing style that keeps me coming back for more!

Allied – Amy Tintera

Everless – Sara Holland
★★★★★
I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews for Everless  and while I do understand and even agree with some of the points made in some of them, I do have to admit that this is a book that’s stuck with me long after I’ve finished it, not in any life changing way, I just vividly remember the plot and what happens, which for me is generally when I know I’ve read a good book!

Vicious – V. E. Schwab
Spellslinger – Sebastien de Castell
The Hero of Ages – Brandon Sanderson
The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas

Hope and Red – Jon Skovron
★★★★★
love this book, it’s so different to a lot of the books I read, maybe because it’s adult and not YA? Idk, but I really enjoyed this one a hell of a lot! It’s such a shame these books aren’t as well known, if you like adult fantasy with magic, adventure, pirates and awesome main characters that you’ll fall in love with, then I’d definitely suggest picking Hope and Red up!

Traitor To the Throne – Alwyn Hamilton

So I’ve only read six of the books on this list so far this year, and there’s way too many books I’ve acquired in the last six months that I want to add to it. I think I may have to take some off this list, but then I really, really should read the ones on here and soon! So many books, so little time has never been more true!

Now for the new list for the rest of 2018!

A Reaper at the Gates – Sabaa Tahir

Morning Star – Pierce Brown

Iron Gold – Pierce Brown

Tower of Dawn – Sarah J Maas (I’m going to be re-reading the whole ToG series before starting ToD though, ready for when the last books comes out!)

Legendary – Stephanie Garber

Kingdom of Ash – Sarah J Maas

Vicious – V. E. Schwab

Wires and Nerve – Marissa Meyer

I think that’s all I’m going to have for the next six months, I obviously plan to read a lot more than 8 books over the next six months, but these are just the ones I definitely want to have read by December ’18 😀

Are there any books that you definitely plan to read this year? What book are you most looking forward to?

  1. TBRs are my nemesis. I always get sidetracked! I think you’ve done pretty good so far this year, lol. I’ve had books on my seasonal TBRs four or five times in a row, and still haven’t read them. So I think you’re doing great. Congrats!
